What we have here are ideas to die for. And there are quite a few of them. It’s not just religions. Communism, of course, is another. Democracy, justice, freedom. Yes, freedom is an idea to die for. You only have to go as far as New Hampshire, where the state license plate reads “Live Free or Die.” People take this seriously. Most of us are prepared to die for one idea or another.
