MercuryNews.com | Imagining nightmare of snowboarder's mom
Raising children means letting go, little by little. We hold our breath as they take their first wobbly steps, knowing there will be bruises, urging them to take risks even as we stand by to catch them when they fall.
Then one day we just have to step back and let them go it alone, because if we don't, they'll never grow up. We have to recognize that life is dangerous, accidents happen, and we're not in control.
